Zeta functions of groups and enumeration in Bruhat-Tits buildings
We introduce a new method to calculate local normal zeta functions of finitely generated, torsion-free nilpotent groups, T-groups in short. It is based on an enumeration of vertices in the Bruhat-Tits building for Sln(Qp). It enables us to give explicit computations for T-groups of class 2 with small centres and to derive local functional equations. Examples include formulae for non-uniform nor...
متن کاملFrom Acyclic Groups to the Bass Conjecture for Amenable Groups
We prove that the Bost Conjecture on the `-assembly map for countable discrete groups implies the Bass Conjecture. It follows that all amenable groups satisfy the Bass Conjecture.
متن کاملOuter Automorphism Groups of Bieberbach Groups
Let Γ be a Bieberbach group it is a fundamental group of a flat manifold. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions on Out(Γ) to be infinite. We also compare our result with the previous one ([8], Theorem 7.1) about Anosov automorphisms of flat manifolds. We give several examples of Bieberbach groups.
متن کاملAmenable Groups
Throughout we let Γ be a discrete group. For f : Γ → C and each s ∈ Γ we define the left translation action by (s.f)(t) = f(s−1t). Definition 1.1. A group Γ is amenable is there exists a state μ on l∞(Γ) which is invariant under the left translation action: for all s ∈ Γ and f ∈ l∞(Γ), μ(s.f) = μ(f). Example 1.2. Finite groups are amenable: take the state which sends χ{s} to 1 |Γ| for each s ∈ ...
متن کاملA Sofic Group Away from Amenable Groups
We give an example of a sofic group, which is not a limit of amenable groups.
